12 lines flout Danish emissions rules

Danish authorities have sniffed out 12 shipping lines so far this year for using banned high sulphur fuel.

Denmark sits in the middle of the Baltic ECA and has deployed clever technology including so called ‘sniffers’ on a bridge as well as on a drone to detect ships contravening emissions rules in the region.

Of the 12 reported cases this year, one has resulted in a fine while others are still being processed.

The sniffer project will continue until February at which point authorities will assess whether or not to continue funding it.
