600 staff to go at Odfjell Drilling

Oslo: Odfjell Drilling has sent out a compensation package offer to 600 onshore workers as redundancies loom amid the weak oil price sentiment.

In mid-February Odfjell Drilling said it was afraid three awaited drillships will never be delivered, as the corruption scandal surrounding Brazilian energy conglomerate, Petrobras, continued to unravel.

Odfjell Drilling is a shareholder in three of the seven drillships to be built in Jurong Aracruz shipyard in Brazil with 10% in each ship. Odfjell Drilling was guaranteed long-term contracts with Petrobras for delivery and operation of the ships. These ships have since become highly unlikely to be finished.
