Danish shipowner and operator Dampskibsselskabet NORDEN has signed a 10-year contract of affreightment with utility firm Sembcorp Energy India.
Commencing April 1, Norden will carry out the transportation of steam coal in panamaxes totalling 12 million tonnes over the ten-year period. It will use both owned and chartered in vessels to transport the cargo from various ports in India and South Africa to Krishnapatnam.

“This contract not only allows us to show our commitment to growing our presence in India, but also enables us to position vessels across the load and discharge port regions, where they can be deployed to fulfil other contracts.”
Sembcorp Energy India is an independent power producer, and owns and operates two coal fired supercritical power plants near the port of Krishnapatnam on the east coast of India.
