Slick detected from grounded bulker near the world’s largest raised coral atoll
Oil spill response teams headed today to Rennell Island in the Solomon Islands to counter an oil slick from a bulker which grounded near a UNESCO site two weeks ago.
Amid foul weather a breach has opened up on the Solomon Trader, and a slick has been detected.
The ship ran aground while loading bauxite near the East Rennell world heritage site. The island is the largest raised coral atoll in the world.
