Transocean lands five-year deal with Chevron for newbuild drillship

Offshore driller Transocean has signed a five-year contract with Chevron for one of its two ultra-deepwater drillship currently under construction at Jurong Shipyard in Singapore.

The drillship will be the first rated for 20,000 psi operations, and will feature the most advanced capabilities and state-of-the-art technology.

The contract is worth around $830m and the vessel is expected to commence operations in the Gulf of Mexico in the second half of 2021.

“We are extremely pleased to announce that we have entered into an agreement with Chevron to construct and operate the industry’s most capable ultra-deepwater drillship,” said Jeremy Thigpen, president and CEO of Transocean.
