Rowan jackup extended by Shell in Trinidad

US offshore driller Rowan Companies, currently in the middle of a $12bn combination with Ensco, has been awarded an extension by Shell in Trinidad for 2000-built jackup rig Rowan Gorilla VI.

The extension keeps the rig operating on its current drilling programme until March, after which it will be used by Shell for platform support and accommodation work through to September 2019, with an option to extend to November 2019.

Houston-headquartered Rowan owns a fleet of 21 jackup rigs and four drillships.
