Asia

Asia a possibility for Titanic II

Brisbane: The prospect of seeing a replica of the world’s most famous ship in Asian waters has been raised. Clive Palmer, the Australian mining tycoon behind the ambitious project to build a replica of the Titanic in China, spoke with our new sister site Maritime CEO today.

As well as expressing his firm intention to getting the shipbuilding contract signed with China’s CSC Jinling Shipyard soon, Palmer raised the prospect of the new ship coming to Asia. The inaugural voyage, scheduled for September 2016, will set sail, just like its ill-fated forebear, from Southampton in the UK to North America.

Barring any unfortunate scrapes with icebergs, Asian cruise travellers can expect the ship to come to Asia. While the focus of Titanic II will be on the transatlantic, Palmer did say it could sail to other destinations in Asia and Australia as well as be available for corporate events.  [20/02/13]
