Automobile yard for ro-ro services at Pipavav port

Mumbai: Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd (GPPL) and Japan’s NYK Auto Logistics (India) have collaborated in the setting up of a dedicated automobile yard for roll-on, roll-off (ro-ro) services at Pipavav Port.

The yard, which has an annual designed capacity of 250,000 vehicles, will be ready for operations in the second quarter (July to September) of fiscal 2015-16. It will work 24 hours a day, 365 days in the year.

Under the arrangement, NYK Auto Logistics has been sub-leased land parcels by GPPL inside its premises for developing a dedicated common- user integrated ro-ro terminal with India’s first port-based PDI (pre-delivery inspection) and vehicle processing center.

GPPL will provide all the port and related facilities to the logistics operator for ensuring smooth and seamless flow of automobile cargo.

The NYK group operates 18 ro-ro terminals globally, including seven in China, Thailand and Singapore.
