Bangladesh Shipping Corporation seeks greater government support

The government in Bangladesh today deliberates a request made by Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) to make it easier for it to procure ships from overseas.

The Bangladesh Shipping Corporation Act makes it tricky for the state-run line to move in the markets for tonnage. The line is also asking for the government to double the paid-in capital of the company in a bid to make the country less reliant on overseas carriers.

Founded in 1972, BSC’s fleet today comprises 13 ships with an average age of around 20 years.
