Battle for Johan Sverdrup continues

Oslo: The Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has asked for help from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) on how to allocate shares of the huge Johan Sverdrup field. The plan for development and operation of the field was submitted without the partners agreeing their own distribution. The ministry states that it has now started work on the distribution plans. NPD will do the same and report to the ministry by June 9.

It is primarily Det Store Norske Oljeselvskap, Kjell Inge Rokke’s oil firm,  which has rallied against the current percentage distribution where they receive 11.9% of the field. The rest is divided between Statoil (40%) , Lundin Norway (22.1%) , Petoro (17.8%) and Maersk Oil (8.1 %).

Changes in fractions of as little as 1% can have a major impact, as Johan Sverdrup is  expected to bring in NKR350bn over the next 50 years.
