Bohol cruise plans

Manila: The governor of the central Philippine island of Bohol, Edgar Chatto, is pushing hard to make his stunning island more of a hit on the international cruise map.

He is keen to finish the cruise port at Catagbacan as the cruise facility at the island’s capital, Tagbilaran is getting too congested.

The governor cited the recent call of MV Minerva from Swan Hellenic Cruises which docked at the Tagbilaran City Port but only for less than a day due to port congestion.

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said it is looking into the Catagbacan development. The idea is to add up to 100 m in berth length to the current site and the channels leading to the port will need to be dredged.

Bohol is a big draw for tourism in the Philippines, blessed with fine beaches, great tracts of jungle, the Chocolate Hills and the world’s smallest primate, the tarzier. [29/01/13]
