BP exits MR sector with triple sale to Sinokor

Three 2005-built MR tankers belonging to oil major BP’s shipping arm  have been sold en bloc for $12.2m each including time charter backs, market sources tell Splash. The sale filled up this weekend’s shipbroker reports, however at the time no taker was attached to the deal. Now sources reveal to Splash that acquisitive Korean company Sinokor is the buyer.

Sinokor has been busy in the tanker segment lately, ordering four VLCCs that will hit the water next year.

The BP sale is interesting as it appears to be an exit from the MR sector for the oil major while for Sinokor the purchase will mark an entry. The ships reported sold are the 47,000 dwt British CourtesyBritish Serenity and British Tranquillity.
