CarVal takes HMM cape for $30.5m

Weeks after Korean owner Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) invited offers for the 178,896 dwt old Hyundai Talent, Splash can finally reveal the buyer of the 2010-built capesize. US-based CarVal Investors is reported by brokers as paying $30.5m for the ship. CarVal is partly owned by Cargill and has been on the prowl for tonnage all year.

The HMM cape deal come weeks apart since CarVal was linked to two Chinese-built panamaxas owned by Japan’s Nisshin Shipping in a deal that has yet to be confirmed.

CarVal is listed with twelve capes.
