CEO of the Korean Register passes away

Dr B S Park, chairman and CEO of the Korean Register, has passed away after a short illness, aged 63.

The registry said Dr Park (pictured) had made a “significant impact” on the classification society since joining as its head in December 2014.

“In particular he will be remembered both as a moderniser and as a someone who cared deeply for the people he worked with,” the Korean Registry said in a statement.

“In his relatively short time with KR, Dr Park had travelled extensively and was well liked and respected across the industry.”

Dr Park was a graduate of Korea Maritime and Ocean University. He joined Pan Ocean Shipping in 1976, where he worked in various roles until 2001.

The same year, he was appointed CEO of Welson Korea Insurance Brokers before becoming COO of Korea P&I Club in 2006.

Dr Park leaves a wife and two grown-up children.
