Chemical tanker explodes near Changzhou on Yangtze River

Chemcial tanker Wan Zhong Si Hao suffered an explosion onboard near Changzhou Port on Yangtze River yesterday.

The explosion triggered a major fire onboard the vessel. Local maritime safety administration sent firefighting vessels to the scene and managed to contain the fire within a few hours.

One crew member suffered a severe injury in the incident and he is now in a stable condition after being sent to local hospital for treatment.

According to local reports, a preliminary investigation suggests that the crews didn’t wear electrostatic prevention clothing in accordance with the safety protocols when unloading the hazardous cargo from the ship.
