China’s salvage capabilities improve

Shanghai: Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry has delivered China's first 300-meter saturated diver's mothership to Shanghai Salvage Bureau yesterday. China's largest submersible-support vessel marks a breakthrough in the development of the country's deep-water salvage force.

The 125.7-meter-long, 25-meter-wide and 10.6-meter-tall ship is equipped with a saturated diving system that can operate at a maximum depth of 300 meters.

“The ship marks a significant enhancement in the China's ability to handle emergency salvaging missions at great depths for large tonnage, as well as its ability to deal with large-area oil leaks and other emergencies,” said Vice Minister of Transport Xu Zuyuan.  [07/08/12]
