CJN Shipping: International push

Manila: A Philippine shipmanagement company is looking to go global. CJN Shipping and Brokerage Corp was formed in 2008 to cater to the local shipping market. Says the firm’s owner, Daisy Canky, “Due to the many incidents and accidents and compliance failures of our local shipping industry here in the Philippines I together with a group of local maritime officers and maritime industry players formed this company in order to assist the local shipowners in complying with flag state authority requirements.”
Canky expresses concern about the number of shipowners who are operating ships these days because they have the money without understanding what  shipping operations and management is all about.
Canky also has concerns about crew retention. “In our local shipping industry crew retention is still a worry especially for officers with operational and managerial level, due to salary competition with international manning agencies,” she says.
As CJN has grown locally, the time has come, says Canky, to take on internationals clients.  [07/07/14]
