French container shipping company CMA CGM on Friday completed the purchase of Mercosul Line, a Brazilian container line that was owned by Danish conglomerate Maersk.
The deal became final with the seal of approval from Brazil’s regulator. It had been mooted originally in June when CMA CGM made a move because Maersk had to shed Mercosul in order for its own acquisition of Hamburg Sud to go through. Maersk closed that piece of business in late November.
By the agreement of both parties no price has been disclosed for CMA CGM’s purchase of Mercosul, a leading player in Brazil’s domestic container shipping market.
Mercosul, founded in 1996 and acquired by Maersk in 2006, has a fleet of four 2,500 teu vessels and calls at more than a dozen ports in South America.
