CMA CGM takes another feeder boxship

French liner giant CMA CGM has bought the 1,118 teu Dolphin Strait from Germany’s Carsten Rehder for a price Alphaliner reports as $3.8m.

The ship, which is fitted with 220 reefer plugs, is currently on charter to South Korean operator SM Line, on a service connecting South Korea, Hong Kong to Vietnam.

The Dolphin Strait is the second CV 1100 design boxship  purchased by CMA CGM in recent times, adding to the Asturiano, acquired in November from the Argentinean group Ultrapetrol for a reported $3.9m.

“Both transactions reflect the French carrier’s willingness to take advantage of the current low second hand prices to modernize and expand its fleet of owned container tonnage,” Alphaliner noted in its most recent weekly report.
