CMA CGM vessel to call at Iran next month

Dubai: Iran’s release from its onerous sanctions is seeing the world’s containerlines rush to call at the Middle Eastern state. MSC’s CEO Diego Aponte has been in Tehran recently looking at opportunities, while France’s CMA CGM is set to start calling in southern Iran from next month.

Ebrahim Idani, director general of Hormozgan Ports and Maritime Department, told local media that CMA CGM’s 11,500 teu Andromeda will call at Shaid Rajaei port in early August. The ship is on an Asia-Europe loop.

Shahid Rajaei port is located 23 km west of Bandar Abbas and is Iran’s most modern container terminal with 18 gantry cranes.

Other containerlines are expected to announce Iran calls soon.
