Cocaine bust on Teekay VLGC

Spanish-flagged VLGC gas carrier Hispania Spirit (137,814 cam, built 2002) has found itself in the middle of a huge drug haul while anchored off Pisco port in Peru.

Coast guard raided the vessel after “suspicious activities” were reported to find 211kg of cocaine onboard in a compartment to the rear of the ship along with a Venezuelan citizen who was not a crew member. It is not known whether any of the crew were involved.

The Teekay-owned vessel was been brought into port and boarded by police, who confirmed the substance as cocaine. It was supposed to be headed for the Mexican port of Manzanillo.
