Construction firm Queiroz Galvao caught up in Petrobras corruption probe

Another big construction company in Brazil has become ensnared in the Petrobras corruption scandal, as federal police have raided properties of Queiroz Galvao and have arrested some former and current executives.

The web of graft that has swirled around Brazil’s state run oil firm Petrobras has been under investigation in the Operation Car wash probe for more than two years. It involved contractors bribing Petrobras executives in return for overpriced contracts, with politicians being given kickbacks to look the other way.

Rio de Janeiro-based Queiroz Galvao, one of the top three building companies in Brazil, is alleged to have paid more than $3m in bribes to Petrobras executives and almost the same sum again to politicians to compromise a congressional inquiry into the oil firm’s widespread graft.

Ildefonso Colares Filho – once a senior executive at Queiroz Galvao – and current employee Othon Zanoide de Moraes were arrested in the latest police action.
