Cosco Shipping orders three pulp carriers at Cosco Dalian Shipyard

Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers has approved a plan to order two 62,000 dwt pulp carriers, with an option to construct one more, at Cosco Dalian Shipyard

The price for each vessel is RMB222m ($33.7m) and the first vessel is scheduled for delivery in January 2019, with the other two vessels to deliver later in the same year.

Cosco said the order is to meet the demand to develop the pulp transporatation market, and it expects China to account for 70% of global pulp demand growth by 2020.

In March, Cosco entered into a COA contract with Brazilian pulp exporter Suzano Group, which will see Cosco will transport about 300,000 tons of pulp for Suzano Group every year from 2019 for a period of five years.
