Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation secures seven from Cosco

Dalian: Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC) has announced that it has signed shipbuilding contracts with Cosco Dalian, the oil shipping arm of Cosco Group, for the construction of two 319,000dwt VLCCs and five 72,000dwt product tankers. The contract details were not disclosed.

Currently Cosco Dalian operates a fleet of fifteen VLCCs, and it has another eight VLCCs under construction at DSIC, CSSC Longxue Shipbuilding and Cosco Dalian Shipyard.

The order is in line with the central government’s plan to optimize the fleet of national carriers. Ministry of Transport announced last week that the ship scrapping subsidy for shipping lines that replace old vessels with newer, greener ones, would be extended to the end of 2017.
