Dammam Port expansion urgently needed

Doha: Expansion underway at Saudi Arabia’s Dammam Port, also known as King Adbul Aziz Port, cannot happen quick enough, according to a new report from the Kuwait Financial Centre.

Dammam is under huge stress at the moment as it is working above its 1.5m teu operating capacity. After Jeddah, it is the kingdom’s second busiest container port. A new terminal is planned which will double capacity when completed in 2015.

Dammam port is marred by heavy congestion, the report noted, adding that the port is the only one in Saudi Arabia with a railway link which connects the city and port's docks directly to industrial complexes.  [02/04/13]
