David Williams appointed new Safmarine CEO

Athens: Grant Daly will step down as the CEO of Safmarine at the end of June, and will be replaced by David Williams (pictured).

Daly is stepping down to “prioritise the longer-term healthcare of his family”, the company said, and will relocate to the USA to take a position within the Maersk group’s liner business there. He joined Safmarine in 1994 and was appointed as its CEO in February 2012.

“I am exceptionally proud of who we are at Safmarine, what we represent, and of the mutual success and partnerships that we have forged and delivered on over many years,” Daly said today.

Williams has worked for the Maersk group for 24 years and is currently the head of Maersk Line China. He will start in his new position on July 1.

“David has an intimate understanding and passion for the Safmarine brand and has been an obvious successor for Grant,” said Stephen Schueler, Maersk Line’s chief commercial officer.

“I am deeply honoured to have been chosen for this role. Grant has led Safmarine to great results and I have only great admiration for his exemplary leadership. I look forward to joining the Safmarine family and in bringing in my passion for the brand,” David Williams said of his new appointment.
