Bangkok: Yesterday’s latest inter-governmental between Myanmar and Thailand talks on the megaport project of Dawei suggest the final details of the joint development plan will be ready in three to four months.

The two countries yesterday reaffirmed their commitment to joint development of a $50bn special economic zone (SEZ) and a deepsea port in eastern Myanmar.

Italian-Thai Development Plc, Thailand’s largest contractor, has been granted a concession to develop the Dawei project consisting of infrastructure worth $8.5 billion for the first phase.

The forced relocation of more than 30,000 will take place before June next year, it was also announced yesterday.  [08/11/12]
