DEME awarded North Sea cable installation contract

DEME Group subsidiary Dredging International has been awarded a contract by Belgium’s Elia for the submarine power cable installation at its Modular Offshore Grid project in the North Sea.

The project includes an offshore switchyard platform 40 nautical miles off the Zeebrugge coast to which four wind farms will be connected. Submarine cables will link the platform with a substation in Belgium.

DEME will deploy multiple vessels to carry out the work including DP3 cable installation vessel Living Stone and hoppers Minerva and Scheldt River.

The Modular Offshore Grid is scheduled to be operational by the third quarter of 2019.
