Ditas Shipping orders two suezmax tankers from HHI

Turkey’s Ditas Shipping has ordered two 158,000-dwt suezmax crude tankers from Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in South Korea, reports say.

The deal is valued at between $120m to $140m for the two ships, which are due for delivery in 2018, according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency.

The deal is HHI’s first reported order this year. South Korea shipyards did not receive any new orders during January, the first month since 2009 where no contracts were signed, the newswire said.

However, some reports suggest Australia’s ASP Group last month ordered a 50,000-dwt tanker at Hyundai Mipo by transferring its original contract, signed in September with SPP Shipbuilding, to the new yard. The contract includes one vessel option.
