Donald Trump appoints Michael Khouri as FMC chair

President Donald Trump has appointed Michael Khouri as chairman of the five-member Federal Maritime Commission. Khouri, a 45-year veteran of the marine industry, has served on the commission since 2009. He replaces former Port of Long Beach harbour commissioner Mario Cordero as chairman of the regulatory body.

Cordero, a Democrat whose term expires in 2019, said yesterday he has no immediate plans to leave the commission. However, he hinted yesterday he might be interested in running Long Beach’s port, a position that has been open since last September when Jon Slangerup abruptly resigned at the leading Californian facility.
