Eddy Bruyninckx to step down at Antwerp

One of the best-known names in the European ports scene will retire this Saturday.

Eddy Bruyninckx, CEO of the Antwerp Port Authority for the last 25 years, will be succeeded by Jacques Vandermeiren.

Vandermeiren headed up local network company Elia before taking over the busy Belgian port.

Bruyninckx leaves Antwerp in good health, the port cracking 10m teu for the first time this year and overall tonnage for 2016 is estimated to be at 214m tons making it one of Europe’s largest ports.

Starting out with the Informa Group in 2000 in Hong Kong, Sam Chambers became editor of Maritime Asia magazine as well as East Asia Editor for the world’s oldest newspaper, Lloyd’s List. In 2005 he pursued a freelance career and wrote for a variety of titles including taking on the role of Asia Editor at Seatrade magazine and China correspondent for Supply Chain Asia. His work has also appeared in The Economist, The New York Times, The Sunday Times and The International Herald Tribune.
