Essar wins $48m case against Steel Authority of India

The Steel Authority of India (SAIL) will have to pay Essar Shipping $48m, an arbitration tribunal has ruled.

The tribunal decided SAIL had illegally terminated a contract dating back to November 2007 to transport 3m tonnes of coking coal from Australia to India.

The contract was subsequently renegotiated in March 2011 for a three-year period.
