Evergreen appoints new head

Evergreen International, a subsidiary of Evergreen Group, has appointed Ko Lee-ching as the chairman of the company, supported by the late Evergreen Group chairman Chang Yung-fa’s eldest son Chang Kuo-hua and second son Chang Kuo-ming.

Evergreen Group terminated the top management division of the group, along with the chairman role after Chang Kuo-wei declared he was taking over as chairman of the group in February.

Currently most senior executives of the group have moved to Evergreen International, which is now serving as the management headquarters of the group.

Ko joined Evergreen in 1968 and used to serve as a vice chairman at the group. She was appointed by Chang Yung-fa as one of the executors of his will, which appointed Chang’s youngest son Chang Kuo-wei as the chairman of the group.

Chang Kuo-wei said through his lawyer that the matter is beyond his control and he will not make any comment on it. He declared last week that he was no longer seeking control of Evergreen Group and hoped to start his own business instead. He was also willing to sell his entire stake in the family enterprises to his older brothers to make a clean break.
