Evergreen Group terminates chairman role as succession war intensifies

Evergreen Group has announced in an internal notice that the board has approved to terminate the top management division of the group, along with the chairman role. Senior executives will be appointed to each subsidiary of the group.

The decision comes after the late Evergreen Group chairman Chang Yung-fa’s youngest son Chang Kuo-wei declared he was taking over as chairman of the group last week.

The reshuffling of the company structure is believed to be a response from the three other sons of Chang Yung-fa, from his first wife, using their voting power on the Evergreen board.

Bronson Hsieh, vice president of Evergreen, has been transferred to Evergreen International and his position has been changed to a consultancy role while another vice president of the group, Lin Jung-hua, has resigned.

Hsieh and Lin were reportedly among four Evergreen executives who were expected to assist Chang Kuo-wei in taking over the group based on the late tycoon’s will.

When contacted by Splash today, Evergreen Group declined to comment on the matter.
