Evergreen will receive first Samsung 8,000 teu boxship this month

Taipei: Taiwan’s top liner Evergreen Line is set to receive the first of 20 giant boxships it ordered in Korea this month. Evergreen is spending $2.06bn at Samsung Heavy Industries for twenty 8,000 teu ships. The “L-type” ships will deliver through to 2015. On top of that, Evergreen has ten similar ships under construction at CSBC in Taiwan costing a total of $1.03bn, while it has recently concluded a charter deal to take a series of 13,800 teu ships that are to be built at Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries. Evergreen’s massive fleet build up will see its fleet approach 200 ships and surpass Cosco into fourth place in the global liner rankings.  [17/07/12]
