Expansion work begins at Guayaquil terminal

Extension work has begun on the dock at Terminal Portuario Guayaquil (TPG), a port in the Ecuadorean city of Guayaquil.

Work under way will see the dock extended by 120 metres, giving it a new length of 480m.

Along with the purchase of two new Super Post Panamax cranes and other improvements the extension will help TPG increase its transfer capacity by 25%. In 2015 the terminal moved 2.27m tons of cargo.

TPG is on the western bank of the Guayas River which flows into the Gulf of Guayaquil and the Pacific Ocean.

The port is operated by Chilean multinational port services company SAAM.
