Explosion hits tanker at Basuo Port, at least one fatality

An explosion hit oil tanker Feng Sheng You 8 yesterday while it was loading naphtha at Basuo Port in Hainan, China.

The local fire brigade sent a team of 50 firefighters to the scene and managed to contain the fire and evacuate 16 out of 17 crew members onboard the ship.

One crew member remains missing. Of those crew evacuated, one later died after being sent to hospital, while another three remain in hospital with severe injuries.

The vessel is operated and owned by Guangdong Dongguan Fenghai Shipping.
