Fredriksen in for up to six VLCCs at STX

Seoul: STX Offshore & Shipbuilding has confirmed reports that John Fredriksen has ordered two firm plus four options VLCCs. The 300,000 dwt ships have been booked privately by the Norwegian, not linked to any of his existing companies.

Brokers say the price of the ships is $90m each. The two firm ships will deliver in the first half of 2017.

The VLCCs are a departure for STX, which lately has been focusing mainly on securing LR1 product tanker orders.
