FreeSeas fixes handysize at a higher rate

FreeSeas has fixed a handysize bulk carrier on a 30-day timecharter at a higher rate than the vessel’s previous employment.

The Free Neptune (30,838 dwt, built 1996) was fixed to an undisclosed charterer at $9,500 per day for the period, slightly higher than the $8,900 per day it was earning on a 37-day timecharter completed on August 28.

“We are pleased that the Free Neptune has been able to secure employment at rates comfortably above her running expenses. This reflects an overall much improved picture for timecharter rates compared to the situation at the beginning of the year,” said Ion G Varouxakis, FreeSeas’ CEO, in a statement today.

“We look forward to gradually seeing similar results for the rest of the fleet, depending on positional situations.”
