Fugro to deploy Brazil-built IRM vessel under new contract with Petrobras

Dutch survey company Fugro has secured a one-year inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) contract with Brazil’s state oil form Petrobras.

The contract, with an option for a further year extension, will see Fugro deploy its specialist IRM vessel Fugro Aquarius on offshore projects in the demanding conditions of oil and gas exploration offshore Brazil.

Fugro Aquarius was built in Brazil by Wilson Sons shipyard in Guaruja in Sao Paulo state off a design by Dutch firm Damen Shipyards Group.

It is an 83-metre long craft which can accommodate a 60-person crew and operate at depths of 3,000 metres. Lifting equipment on board can handle weights up to 10 tonnes.

The money value of the contract was not disclosed.
