Green Management: Reefers nearly back to equilibrium

Gdynia: The reefer trades are near equilibrium in terms of supply and demand unlike many other sectors, says the head of one of the main shipmanagers looking after the shipping segment. Irek Kuligowski is the managing director of Gydnia-based Green Management, which looks after the ships of Norway’s Green Reefers as well as a few on a third party basis.
At the moment Green Management looks after 30 specialized reefer ships and one roro and two car carriers. Kuligowski says he is keen to expand the fleet with a big push into the offshore arena.
The downturn for reefer ships is over, Kuligowski says. “Our market greatly improved due to the near balance between ships’ supply and demand,” he explains.
As a manager the key to surviving the past few years, Kuligowski reckons is keeping a lid on operating expenses.
“Only owners who took care about operating expenses survived, as we see it,” he says.  [29/01/14]
