Guangzhou: With two new port areas, Macun and Xinhai, about to start construction at south Hainan province's Port of Haikou, the port is on course to join the 100m tonne club by 2015. A total of $1.4bn is being spent on the new port facilities boosting boc throughput to an anticipated 1.8m teu and passenger throughput is expected to crack 20m people a year. The island of Hainan is one of the premier cruise destinations in China and Haikou is fighting it out with Sanya for cruise calls with both ports lavishing vast sums to boost facilities.  [16/07/12]
