IRI looks to up Asian offshore presence

Singapore: Today marks the start of Singapore’s big offshore exhibition OSEA. Seemingly every maritime firm these days is keen to expand their remit into offshore, and that extends to flags too. A sizeable delegation from International Registries, Inc, which looks after the Marshall Islands flag, is in town this week, keen to stress its long background in offshore.

Charles McHardy, IRI's oil and gas global expert maintains that IRI is “the flag of choice for the full range of offshore vessels, registering the majority of new, sophisticated mobile offshore drilling, production, and service units”.

The complexity of offshore vessels requires different flag needs from commercial vessels, according to McHardy. “Dealing with a flag that has a solid background and experience in the offshore sector, and that is also located in the principle offshore regions of the world is essential to resolving issues that arise during construction as well as with operation,” he told SeaShip News.  [27/11/12]
