Our client, an offshore asset owner and operator for offshore floating production and storage platforms is currently on the lookout for a General Manager, Engineering. This position will be based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Application from expatriates are welcome.



  • Develop suitable solutions to support the Commercial team in the initial stages of BD with potential clients
  • Approve the design philosophies and design execution strategy to ensure the asset quality, safety, constructability, operability and maintainability are addressed in the design in accordance with the company's strategic direction
  • Mentor the engineering management group in the development of the technical basis for CAPEX development for new project (pre award) and ensure supply gaps/risks are adequately accounted for in technical specifications and/or commercial terms
  •  Market, provide credibility and expert opinion in the negotiation with clients on the adaptation of concept revision based on feasibility study findings to improve customer satisfaction


  • Mentor the engineering management group in the assessment of Fabricator/Shipyard technical proposal to ensure compliance with Company’s SOW and commercial competitiveness
  • Lead, direct and guide in-house engineering resources to monitor and as necessary intervene in the PMT performance on all systems in order to provide proactive support to expedite delivery of FEED documentation and ensuring compliance with Client and Classification Society requirements in accordance with construction/supply schedule


  • Innovate novel solutions that reduce impact on production downtime & minimise cost
  • Identify new technologies for production improvement in order to generate additional revenue on existing assets
  • Manage engineering studies, verify activities in operational parameters or design are properly captured in order to minimise risk to personnel and environment
  • Enhance knowledge management to ensure timely response to emergency scenarios


  • Lead, direct and guide in-house engineering resources in the methods and practices for review Clients ITBs and design specifications to develop scope of work for long lead and/or specialist equipment tender packages based on optimizing the use of market available equipment, applications of fit for purpose design criteria and avoidance of duplication of system components.


  • Provision of technical expertise for validation of additional costs associated with variations to the base scope of supplY
  • Ensuring timely completion and witness of inspection and testing of long lead and/or critical equipment to ensure equipment meets design specifications
  • Completion of design verification activities as requested by VTL
  • Monitor and as necessary intervene in the PMT performance on all systems


  • Communicate and engage engineers to foster and create sense of courage, meaning, ownership and value
  • Identify and develop potential leaders to achieve and enhance OBU’s business objectiveS
  • Provide strategic direction management and continuous improvement of essential analysis tools
  • Set strategy and provide guidance and motivation to drive the development of a ready pool of capable and competent employees to best support the business growth and operational needs
  • Increase technical efficiency and capability through establishment of external third party partnerships
  • Manage database, procedures standards and develop engineering guidance notes which capture corporate knowledge and lessons learnt during detail Design stage including deliverables, HAZOP/HAZID, Project Risk Studies and safety cases


  • Bachelor Degree in relevant Engineering discipline e.g. Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Offshore Engineering
  • More than 15 years’ experience in Engineering for Offshore Oil and Gas projects including Concept Engineering, Front End Engineering, Management of Critical and Long Lead Equipment, Failure Investigation
  • Knowledge of concepts, principles and practices in offshore and heavy engineering project value chain, in particular the management of EPCIC project (engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning) including contracting strategy for floating production systems e.g. FSO, FPSO
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in senior managerial position within the offshore oil and gas industry


  • Competent in the leadership of engineering design and analysis of FPSO/FSO systems and associated equipment design for structures in the offshore environment
  • Competent in considering all aspects in developing concept and front end design including but not limited to:
  • Commercial limitations and design drivers
  • Construction and project execution limitations and drivers
  • Offshore Topsides System operations
  • Offshore Marine System operation
  • Installation and commissioning limitations
  • Industry standards
  • Safety and Integrity
