Description

We are currently seeking an Environmental Manager. The Environmental Manager will support the Ship's management and shoreside management in the applicable environmental management and compliance programs; Ensure that the Fleet Waste Management Program and Hazardous Waste Program (inclusive of permits / waste profiles / classification / lab-pack / inventory / recycling / disposal and invoice consolidation/payment) are properly implemented on board and that the record keeping requirements, i.e. receipts, manifests and certificates are received in a timely manner. Team Work is essential; Work with team of 4 Environmental Managers within scope of independent management of assigned vessels and different assigned functions. Substitute colleagues as needed and instructed by senior management.

Essential Functions

  • Support ship and shoreside management in routine environmental operations programs
  • Serving as a technical liaison concerning all environmental operational matters
  • Ensure that the fleet waste management programs are properly implemented on board and that the record keeping requirements, i.e. receipts, record books, manifests, and certificates are completed and received in a timely manner
  • Conduct waste vendor due diligence audits when needed/requested
  • Review upcoming international and port state environmental laws, regulations as well as guidance & best management practices
  • Conduct Environmental Incident investigations and identify appropriate root cause, corrective and preventive actions
  • Provide technical assistance for Environmental operations related R&D projects and pilot programs
  • Conduct internal environmental auditing activities as requested by management
  • Follow up and identify root cause, corrective and preventive actions from ECP, RAAS and other Environmental audits
  • Support and guide the ship(s)’ management in the proper implementation of environmental operational procedures which include but are not limited to Record keeping; Analyzing applicable environmental regulations, codes, and standards, and applying and incorporating them into  policies; Technical assistance during releasing/reporting investigations; Compliance to policy and law; Sampling programs

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in a related field or Maritime Engineering / License required
  • Maritime Engineering License
  • Extensive Knowledge of International and United States Environmental Regulations
  • Organizational skills to coordinate multiple ship activities simultaneously
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team based environment
  • Good leadership and effective management skills
  • Excellent communication and follow-up skills for frequent interactions with shipboard and shore side teams
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • In depth knowledge of cruise ship environmental management concepts and operations
