Johor ports upgrade

Kuala Lumpur: MMC Corp is spending RM2.21bn to upgrade its ports in Johor.

Group managing director Datuk Hasni Harun said the company is expected to spend RM1.6bn on Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) to increase its handling capacity to 10.5m teu a year next year from 7.7m currently.

RM421m has been earmarked for Johor Port to increase its capacity by around 30% by 2015.

PTP will remain focused on containers while Johor Port’s growth will increasingly focus on the oil and gas sector.
“We are redesigning our Johor Port so that we can do more business in the oil and gas sector,” Hasni said.  [14/05/13]
