Jurong Shipyard accident rig restored to upright position

Singapore: Sembcorp Marine has announced today that the jack-up rig involved in last month’s accident, hospitalising 89 workers, has been successfully restored and floated to its original upright position.

Jurong Shipyard and local authorities will now focus on their investigations into the cause of the accident, believed to be when a failed braking system on one of the moveable legs of the rig had caused the structure, Noble Regina Allen, to tilt.

The jack-up rig which was originally scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of this year will now be rescheduled for delivery by the end of third quarter 2013. [15/01/13]
