Kirby snaps up Seacor barge and towboat fleet

Houston-based Kirby Corporation, the biggest tank barge operator in the US, on Tuesday announced it has signed an agreement to buy the inland barge and towboat fleet of Seacor Holdings.

Kirby will pay Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based Seacor $88m for 27 tank barges and 13 towboats. It will also include one tank barge under construction and one towboat under construction.
Seacor is a marine services company providing equipment and services to offshore oil and gas firms and the marine transportation industry.

Kirby transports bulk liquid products on the Mississippi River System, on the Gulf Intercoastal Waterway, along the nation’s coastline and to Hawaii and Alaska. It also moves petrochemicals, black oil, refined petroleum products and agriculture chemicals.
