Launch of landmark vessel for MAC Offshore

Dubai: Marine Assets Corporation (MAC Offshore) this week celebrated the launch of its first compact semi-sub (CSS). The CSS Olympia has been built at the Liya Pingtan Shipyard, a yard under the management of Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding in Fujian, China. The contract was signed in April 2010, and delivery is due in November 2013 at which point it will head to its new owners, Graal Invest of Brazil.

The launching of the first accommodation variant of the CSS “marked a significant milestone in the seven-year history of the design and development of the program,” MAC Offshore said in a statement.

MAC Offshore ceo Robin Reeves said that there has been a recent signing for four further CSS vessels, due for delivery between August 2014 and Oct 2015.

The four contracts signed with Fujian Mawei is reported to be the largest single order received by Mawei in its 150-year history. The total contract value was not disclosed, but Reeves advised the market value of these four vessels on delivery would be in the region of $500m.

MAC Offshore is a private shareholding company with offices in Dubai and Singapore. MAC Offshore focuses its efforts and expertise on OSV newbuild projects and currently has more than 20 newbuild vessels under its management and control.  [29/03/13]
