Louis Dreyfus snaps up bulker pair

Paris: Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) has snapped up a pair of just-built bulkers for a very reasonable price. LDA paid $17.5m each for the Crescent Star and Moon Star, two sister 40,600-dwt bulkers, delivered this year from China’s Zhoushan Yangfan yard, according to a report from Seasure Shipbroking.

The online ship pricing platform, VesselsValue.com, gives the two new ships a price of $19.5m each. LDA bought the ships from Middle Eastern outfit Transbulk Management.

Broking sources tell Splash that LDA, one of the world’s top grain charterers, is looking to build up a much larger owned fleet, taking advantage of cheap secondhand ship prices.
